DRIVE BELTS

A single belt drives the alternator, water pump, air con compressor and power steering pump. It is recommended for change if in poor condition or at 60,000 miles. Belts sometimes need to be changed because of oil contamination. This is a fairly common Crossfire problem and is due to leaks from the oil filter housing.  The belts are made by Gates who were original belt suppliers to Chrysler.

ABS WHEEL SENSORS FOR THE CROSSFIRE

OXYGEN / LAMBDA SENSOR

Oxygen/lambda sensor for the Crossfire. This NTK sensor is a replacement for any of the four sensors. There are two downstream (after the catalytic converter) and two upstream (before the catalytic converter).

KNOCK (DETONATION) SENSOR

This sensor fits onto the engine block and can detect knocks caused by early detonation of the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chambers. The sensor will signal back to the engine‘s computer which will then adjust the timing to stop this occurring. A faulty sensor is usually indicated by fault code P0325.

AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

This sensor is mounted behind the lower front grill to monitor the outside air temperature.

MAF (Mass Air Flow) SENSOR

MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor unit for the Crossfire. This sensor maintains the correct air to fuel ratio.
Fault symptoms include: hesitation or jerking when accelerating, poor idling, heavier fuel consumption, slower to start or stalling.
Fits all Crossfire models 2003-2008 (except SRT6 which does not have an MAF sensor) .

POWER SEATS RELAY

If the power operated seats fail, or intermittently fail to move in any direction, it is usually due to a faulty power seat relay. Access to the relay is gained by removing the lower dash panel on the driver’s side – the relay can then be seen to the left of the steering column.

HEATER FAN BLOWER RESISTOR

Problems with the heater fan blower having erratic fan speeds when turning the heater control knob and particuarly, if it only works on the highest speed, are commonly due to a faulty resistor.
Erratic fan speeds can also be due to poor contacts on the circuit board behind the heater control panel.

AUTO GEARBOX WIRING PLUG CONNECTOR

Oil leaks from the auto gearbox are most commonly from the wiring plug connector. This direct replacement connector is made from an upgraded  heat-resistant plastic to prevent further oil leaks due to brittleness and cracking. Includes the necessary rubber O rings.

REPLACING CROSSFIRE KEY REMOTES

Replacing a lost or broken key remote fob has become a problem now that most, if not all, Jeep main dealers do not have the software to program new remotes for Crossfires.
Fortunately, Ace Auto Locksmiths in Redhill, Surrey can supply a new key remote fob programmed to your Crossfire for £180 plus VAT  (price at April 2021).  This includes travelling to your address within an hour from Redhill. The price assumes that you have one working remote fob.
Ace are now able to supply you with a programmed remote fob without having to see the car. You just need to take or send them your working remote fob. This is very useful if you live further away from them.
If you have other problems with the key immobilizer system - for example involving the Skreem module,  please contact them for a quote.

The above applies to Crossfire owners here in the UK where all our cars have ‘two button’ remotes.  In some other markets, like the USA, the remote fobs have an extra ‘Panic’ button which allows for customer programming of extra remotes.

BOSCH SPARK PLUGS

Original equipment spark plugs for the Crossfire – Bosch double platinum FR8DPP33 (superseding  F8DPER). The Mercedes V6 Crossfire engine has two plugs per cylinder, one plug firing slightly after the other to ensure complete combustion. It was (and is) a very innovative, efficient system. Mercedes no longer use twin plugs due to advances in technology that allow for multiple firing of a single plug.
